Love and Politics Collide in This Emotion-Packed
Fourth Texas Gold Novel

Kellie Coates Gilbert strikes gold once again in the latest book in the Texas Gold Collection. Readers will be drawn into the story through Gilbert’s deeply emotional writing that highlights the complexities of human relationships.

Out of her desire to care for her mother who is suffering from dementia, Leta Breckenridge drops out of college. Her next step means leaving her comfort zone. After learning that a delinquent account may force her mother into a less desirable facility, Leta takes a leap and lands a high-paying job at an Austin public relations firm. But her dream job soon turns into a nightmare when she learns that the firm she is working for is a front for a political opposition organization—and that the research she has been collecting will be used against Nathan Emerson, the handsome senator she’s swiftly falling in love with.

Nathan is a rising political star being pressured to run a bid to unseat the current governor of Texas. He’s already in a relationship with a woman much better suited to be a politician’s wife, but he’s never met anyone like Leta. Could this feisty woman hold the key to his heart—and his future?

Author Interview #1: KELLIE COATES GILBERT
What Matters Most (Revell 2016)

Why did you choose to write in your particular genre?
I love being a woman.

Women are passionate and complex beings. One minute, fear invades our minds and we worry we don’t measure up, or get anxious our best efforts may fail. The next, we’re taking on a wrong and fighting to make things right, regardless of consequence. We defend the helpless, love the hopeless, and nurture our loved ones—often with a level of courage that surprises our male counterparts.

Our talents are many and we’re masters at juggling roles. We’re fierce with our relationships. And, we struggle when life hits us hard . . . or dreams fade.

My books tell poignant and emotionally compelling stories that feature strong women characters who overcome life’s challenges and change their world . . . and who sometimes fall in love.

I can’t think of anything I’d rather write.

How long have you been writing?
I began my writing journey many years back, starting out with magazine writing. I began training to write fiction in 2004, sold my first manuscript in 2010, and currently have five books on the market. I’m living my dream!

How does your book relate to your spiritual practice?
While my books have no overt spiritual threads, my faith dictates the strong redemptive themes found in my stories. No situation is so dark that it cannot be turned around and no person has gone so far that change is not possible. All my books end on uplifting and hopeful notes.

What do you think most characterizes your writing?
My readers are so good to post reviews and send me emails. Most often they include these phrases:   fast-paced, hard to put down, didn’t see that coming, high-emotional, real characters.

As an author, is there one subject about which you would never write?
While I understand hot and steamy romance is growing in popularity, readers can rely on the fact that explicit sexual content will never show up in my books. That’s not to say my characters will not have sensual feelings and act on them, but if I do my job well, the readers’ minds will take over and finish “writing” those scenes in their imagination.

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven't been before?
My husband and I have owned twelve RVs. I’d love to take our motor home and travel the entire United States, stopping at libraries and bookstores, and meeting with readers. How fun could that be?

Kellie Coates Gilbert is a former legal investigator and trial paralegal, as well as the author of A Woman of Fortune, Where Rivers Part, and A Reason to Stay. Gilbert crafts her emotionally charged stories about women in life-changing circumstances in Dallas, Texas, where she lives with her husband.
