“OMG! My kids and I just finished reading book 3 of the Sir Kaye series. We loved, loved, loved this book. It was full of twists and turns, excitement, near misses, and lots of humor. . . It's a must read. The whole series is a must read. We are impatiently waiting for book 4!!” —Amazon Reviewer

HALL WAYS REVIEW:  Legend of the Forest Beast is the third book in the Sir Kaye the Boy Knight series and having not (yet!) read the first two books, I wasn't sure what to expect. Happily, I can report that the third book can easily stand alone as author Don Winn does a terrific job of getting readers up-to speed and acquainted with the characters. However. . . WARNING: whether readers jump in here or have read the prior two books, be prepared to burn through the pages to a cliffhanger ending that leaves readers clamoring for more!

What is impressive about this book is that the story line is not only well-written and engaging, it's also thought provoking. Through descriptions that place the readers right into a medieval world, readers get realistic snapshots of the daily life and dilemmas of that era. Where some authors would feel the need to embellish this period with magic or fantastical creatures, Winn instead keeps things real and focuses on the power of words and the necessity of logic and problem solving skills.

Readers will delight in seeing how the trio of main characters develops schemes tantamount to the best Scooby Doo episodes. Parents will delight that their kids are learning some excellent lessons on teamwork, friendship, loyalty, honesty, kindness, and much more.  Written in short chapters and accompanied by fabulous, detailed illustrations, this book has it all, and readers can expect doses of suspense & suspicion, fear & fun, and humor & humility.

I highly recommend this chapter book (and likely the whole series) for both reluctant and motivated  independent readers (ages 9-12), and I think it would make a great choice for classroom/library/home read-aloud time. Now, it's time to go back and read the first two books before the final book comes out. (Book 4, The Eldridge Conspiracy, the final book in the series comes out in 2017. Hooray!)
