Irene Hannon welcomes readers back to the enchanting seaside town of Hope Harbor, Oregon, in her novel Sandpiper Cove, releasing April 2017. Praised by Library Journal as a “master at character development,” Irene Hannon steps away from suspense writing once again to deliver another powerful, multifaceted romance that is sure to have readers coming back for more.

Hope Harbor police chief Lexie Graham has plenty on her plate raising her son alone and dealing with a sudden rash of petty theft and vandalism in her coastal Oregon hometown. As a result, she has zero time for extracurricular activities—including romance. Ex-con Adam Stone isn’t looking for love either—but how ironic is it that the first woman to catch his eye is a police chief?

Nevertheless, when Lexie enlists Adam’s help to keep a young man from falling into a life of crime, sparks begin to fly. And as they work together, it soon becomes apparent that God may have a different—and better—future planned for them than either could imagine.

Interview with Adam Stone from Sandpiper Cove

Adam, tell us a little about yourself.

There really isn’t a whole lot to tell. I’m 33, work in construction, and am a newcomer to Hope Harbor here on the Oregon Coast. I don’t have the best background—in fact, I spent the past five years in prison—so I kind of keep to myself.

Why did you settle in Hope Harbor, and how do you like it?

I met the minister of the local church while I was in prison, and he helped find me a job here after I served my time. Hope Harbor is better than I expected—but then again, what’s not to like about a small town on the spectacular Oregon coast? I live on the outskirts of town, in Sandpiper Cove, on some secluded acreage with easy access to the beach. The folks I’ve met in town have been welcoming, but I don’t mingle a lot. I mean, how many people really want to be friends with an ex-con?

Do you have any friends in town?

Well, Reverend Baker, the minister, of course. And BJ Stevens, my boss. She’s first class. And Luis, a Cuban immigrant who works for BJ, has gone out of his way to be nice. But my best buddy is Clyde, a dog I found injured by the side of the road. I nursed him back to health, and he’s my welcome-home committee at the end of the day.

What do you do in your spare time?

I volunteer for an organization called Helping Hands that provides just what the name says to folks in need—especially the older people in town. I also do a lot of wood working. And I hang out with Clyde.

Have you had any problems since you arrived in town?

My place has been hit by vandals a couple of times. I’m an easy target, being on the outskirts of town. But there’s been a rash of vandalism in Hope Harbor, so I don’t think I’m being singled out. At least I hope I’m not.

Any romance on the horizon?

Are you kidding me? What nice woman would want to hang out with an ex-con?

If you were looking for romance, is there anyone who’s caught your eye?

Between you and me, Lexie Graham is an amazing woman. But can you imagine a police chief hooking up with a felon? Not going to happen—except in my dreams.
