Author Insights

Petra and Jacob were introduced to the series in The Enigma Factor. They carved out a challenging relationship through many of the stories while battling the evils of the Darknet.

They have many adventures, heartaches, and triumphs in their careers at the R-Group. Both are brilliant, but their work against the cyber criminal elements keeps them learning every day. These professionals are ferocious over-achievers who understand their limits, many times deferring to one another and their field of expertise. They learned how to “turn off” work and just love one another.

We wanted to put a spotlight on the family side of their lives. This story comes from their evolving relationship during the series. Petra and Jacob with their young son JW have done a mash-up of holiday traditions, sharing their childhood experiences. They’re consummate competitors, and the holidays are no exception when it comes to their gifts for one another.

They played a couple when interrogating a woman during assignment in Tennessee which we wanted to share from The Enigma Stolen. We believe it foreshadows the family they become and how in tune they are with each other. This segment demanded we tell the story Hot Chocolatehttps://youtu.be/uGoHUgflhms

About the Short Story

Watch the family dynamics of a young couple as they embrace the yuletide. Petra and Jacob do a mash up of their cultural heritages during the festivities with their family.

Petra, raised in Europe, cherishes the older European traditions of candle lighted trees and real Swiss chocolate, piping hot with marshmallows and whipped cream.

Jacob, raised in New York City, loves having his family close and sampling piping hot chocolate. He is particularity fond of selecting perfect gifts.

John Wolfgang or JW his parents revel in each of his accomplishments and discoveries as he grows. They find it important to expose JW to the best of these winter wonderland activities of both worlds. Watching the delight in JW’s eyes creates great memories for everyone.

A part of their unabashed affection, they strive to get one another the perfect gift. This adds a layer of their personal teasing season that starts with the first display of St. Nicholas. Jacob smugly announces early this year he’s found the perfect gift. As a result, with all the events and activities, Petra stresses over the selecting the right present for Jacob.

The clock is ticking to their gift exchange.
