After ten years in the NFL, superstar Gray Fowler is accustomed to obsessive fans. But when Gray starts receiving death threats from a stalker, his team hires an executive protection agency to guard him until the culprit is caught. Dealing with bodyguards 24/7 is a headache, especially when one of them is a young, beautiful woman. How can a female half his size possibly protect him better than he can protect himself?

Dru Porter is a former Marine, an expert markswoman, and a black belt--none of which saved her from disaster on her last assignment. In order to rebuild her tarnished reputation, she's determined to find Gray's stalker and, since relationships between agents and clients are forbidden, avoid a romantic attachment between herself and the rugged football player with the mysterious past.

Yet every secret that leads Dru closer to the stalker also draws her closer to Gray. As the danger escalates, they'll survive only if they can learn to trust their lives—and their hearts—to one another.

Praise for Her One and Only
"Down-to-earth, in-depth characters give the story an authentic feel. Dru, being the youngest Porter, is headstrong and sympathetic, and when she matches wits with Gray, their connection is as electric as their budding romance is sweet. A delightful read."—RT Book Reviews

HALL WAYS REVIEW:
Her One and Only is the final book in the Porter Family Series, which spans eight years in the lives of the members of the family.  In this final installment, readers get a story about Dru Porter, the youngest of the family but also a conclusion to the story of Dru’s brother Bo and his wife Meg.  It works fine as a stand-alone book, but it will leave you wanting to know the other stories and grabbing copies of the first three books.

Dru is a fantastically written, kick-butt character who is smart, savvy, and skilled.  She has a great sense of self and introspection, and though she calls ‘em like she sees ‘em and has a bit of a chip on her shoulder, she’s likeable and someone the reader would want to know personally.  Her loyalty to family, to duty, and to self is admirable and attractive.

I haven’t read any of the prior books in the series, so I found myself less invested in the story line of Bo and Meg. However, author Becky Wade did a great job of showing the very real pain and heartbreak felt by couples who experience and miscarriages and fertility problems, and she shows how love and faith in God is what helps carry us through the darkest times.  And such is a major theme of Her One and Only – love, trust, and faith in God are what carry us through the darkest times and help us to live in the light.

It’s apparent that throughout the series, some pretty heavy life topics have been covered, and this book is no different.  In Her One and Only,  Dru’s love interest, Gray Fowler, has survived a childhood filled with horrible abuse and the emotional turmoil of a mother who didn’t protect him, neglected him, and who turned to alcohol for escape.  Wade alternates between telling the story from Dru’s and Gray’s perspectives (as well as Meg’s), so readers get a real sense of the conflict and soul-searching that Gray is experiencing as he explores his faith and feelings and defines what being a Christian really means to him.

Wade’s tactic of opening the book with a flash-forward to the climax of the story was well-played.  Through careful wording, readers are told a lot but not enough to get a clear picture of exactly what happens or be able to solve the mystery.  Amazingly enough, knowing what’s going to go down with the stalker doesn’t lessen the amount of suspense in reading – it heightens it.  Readers will keep turning the pages, thinking, “Is this when it happens?”  How it all unfolds is pretty satisfying and loose ends are tied up neatly and completely.

Becky Wade’s writing style is excellent and pretty darned immaculate. I read an ARC and there were virtually no errors! **The Grammar Policewoman happy dances.**  Dialogue – both external and internal – is natural and completely believable, and descriptions of everything from settings to expressions on characters’ faces really enhance the reading experience.   In sections where the characters are reflecting on their faith, Christianity, and God, it’s not done in a preachy way. Instead, concepts are presented, and readers see how each character deals with grief, forgiveness, blessings, bitterness, grudges, fear, hope, doubt, despair, healing. and much more.

In Her One and Only, suspense, action, and clean romance are spun together in a story line that is highly entertaining yet reminds readers of what’s important in life.  Hooray for Becky Wade!

Becky’s a California native who attended Baylor University, met and married a Texan, and settled in Dallas.  She published historical romances for the general market before putting her career on hold for several years to care for her three children.  When God called her back to writing, Becky knew He meant for her to turn her attention to Christian fiction.  She loves writing funny, modern, and inspirational contemporary romance!  She’s the Carol Award and Inspirational Reader’s Choice Award winning author of My Stubborn Heart and the Texas-set Porter Family series:  Undeniably Yours, Meant to Be Mine, and A Love Like Ours, and Her One and Only.
